If you grew up in the U.S., there’s a very good chance you learned the story of the first Thanksgiving—a meal shared by Pilgrims and Native Americans in 1621—at a very young age.
Your assignment is to recall what you were taught about the first Thanksgiving in elementary school, regardless of what you later learned about the event in later years.
I want to emphasize that I’m not looking for accuracy about the event itself—just what you remember learning in elementary school.
If you attended a U.S. elementary school (inside the U.S. or an American school abroad), write a blog post that:
- tells the story of the first Thanksgiving as you remember it being taught to you.
- shares any activities you recall being asked to complete (e.g., crafts, shared meals) in your elementary school classroom.
If you attended elementary school outside the U.S., write a blog post that:
- shares your understanding of why U.S. Americans celebrate Thanksgiving.
- details any U.S. Thanksgiving festivities in which you have participated.
Read other students’ posts. Comment thoughtfully on at least two of them.
This assignment is due Tuesday, January 26 by 11 p.m.
Remember to categorize the post appropriately, with the assignment name and your group number.
