I vaguely remember learning about The First Thanksgiving in school. One thing that has always stuck out to me in to voyage of the Mayflower that the pilgrims took. Also for some reason the Wampanoags always stood out to me cause I remember thinking what a funny word it was. Some key things that I do remember about this story are that the Wampanoags thought that there was a war breaking out because of a message or something happened that made them think that. They approached the Pilgrims and they soon found out that they were actually just hunting for their food they were not looking for the Wampanaogs or trying to shoot at them. I believe that is where the dinner started. Now that I am recalling this historic event I am actually very interested in learning it again because I do remember being interested in it when i was young. Although it was so long ago I can hardly remember what actually happened.

I agree with you , I cannot fully remember what I learned as a child but now being an adult it has made me want to research and re-learn the subject. I found your post to be interesting as I did not know (or remember) that the Native Americans thought that a war was breaking out. I am relieved to hear that they were able to communicate and found out that the Pilgrims were just hunting and the relationship that followed. Thanks for the great post!

It’s interesting how the simple the first interactions between Pilgrims and Wampanoags (that is a funny word) were portrayed to us as kids. I’m sure that in reality there was a lot more confusion, and probably conflict when the two groups of people first encountered each other.
