Hey Everybody,
I am Caitlyn, a freshman at BSU. I was born into a large family and was raised in the Boise area. I have never traveled too far from home. I can’t really complain about that, because I love it here. Idaho is a beautiful place. One thing that I am grateful for is the way my parents taught me to respect and value nature. Idaho has so many natural playgrounds that I’ve enjoyed exploring, like white water rafting, snowboarding, rock climbing, and even just going on a hike. But of course, one day I hope I will be in the position to travel the world and see other parts of nature.
I graduated from Eagle High School last year in 2015, and headed straight to college after that. I am majoring in English education. I had a writing teacher my senior year who had a way of making her students feel excited about even the smallest things. She used that tool to teach us in an incredible way, and I’ve decided I would like to try to do what she does. Not just in English, but in every way I possibly can to be able to help young people learn and grow.
I am eager to do well in this class and look forward to what everyone has to say and the feedback I receive this semester.

Welcome to the class, Caitlyn!
I studied English in college as well, though it was mostly literature and creative writing. I thought I wanted to be a high school English teacher, but—fortunately for high school students everywhere, as I had little patience at that time for anyone who didn’t take grammar and difficult literature as seriously as I did—I decided to take another path. Instead, I zig-zagged through several career fields, eventually mellowing into a history professor and instructional technologist.
I hope you are able to travel soon. Have you considered studying abroad? (I wish I had.) Maybe HIST 100 will give you some ideas about where you might want to travel.

Hey, Caitlyn! I agree with you that Idaho is a beautiful place, especially Boise. The abundance of outdoor activities was one of the main reasons I decided to move here! I love snowboarding and was actually a liftee up at Bogus Basin a couple years ago. It sounds like you are going into a major that you are genuinely interested in, good for you!
Looking forward to a great semester!

Hi Caitlyn,
Your post was great to read to be able to get to know you a little. I think it is really cool that your parents taught you to respect and value the nature. After recently starting to go hunting, I myself have also found the great necessity to respect nature and wilderness. So cool that you find ways to make teaching fun and interesting to the younger crowd.
