Hey everyone! My name is Elisa Jayo everyone calls me Ellie! I am a senior at BSU this year and I am majoring in Criminal Justice. A little background about me is, I was born and raised in Emmett Idaho….yes I said Emmett. I have grown up hunting, fishing, camping, and playing sports. I am currently a large animal vet tech in Emmett which I absolutely love. I also rodeo on a couple of my horses. I am 3/4 Basque and my family is very passionate about our Basque history. Some books I used to read (at my own will) were The Child Called It books. I am not a reader, unless of course its a grade and I am forced to. I have one dog, his name is Moesly! One of the biggest things that interests me in our history is the Holocaust. I will admit I am extremely behind on issues in our world and government. I dont watch TV and am rarely on facebook! I am looking forward to being apart of this class and learning more about our history and hopefully it will help me focus more on what is happening around me today. I am very familiar with our legal system, because that is what I have been studying the past four years of college. I plan on finishing my bachelors degree this fall. Although I have worked very hard to get this degree I will continue being a large animal vet tech for awhile and eventually move into my degree. I love my job and everything it entails, I am a huge supporter of farming/ranching. One thing that I wish I could change about this world is how it operates. We need more farm land, more livestock, and less chemicals. Anyways, thats just a little bit about me, I look forward to meeting all of you.

Hey!
I was raised in good ol’ Star, Idaho… I am not sure if you know where that is, but you most likely do. I know how that small town kinda feels. It’s cool to be at a big University. I used to raise swine for the Western Idaho Fair livestock sale and was a member of 4H for a long time, I would love to have the job you have! Congratulations on everything you’ve achieved! I hope you have a great semester!

Welcome to the class, Ellie!
I’m jealous of all the time you get to spend around animals. Before my son was born, I rode horses regularly—mostly huntseat and dressage—though I’ve never owned a horse. I miss them! I once was riding in a “fun show” at a stable where I took lessons; that day we were assigned horses randomly to compete in different classes. One class was an obstacle course, and it included three barrels and several poles. I panicked a little bit because I couldn’t remember the right way to enter the barrels to do a cloverleaf pattern, but it ends up the horse I was on—who as far as I knew had been an English school horse all his life—perked up his ears and whipped through the barrels and bent his way around the poles like he’d been doing it his whole life. It ends up he used to be a barrel racer! It was so much fun.
Today, instead of having a horse, I have two very large dogs. If this were a face-to-face class, you’d notice I’m usually covered in dog hair. :\
We’re only reading one book in this class from cover to cover, and I hope you enjoy it. Well, you might find a few parts of it boring (though I hope you don’t!), but the alternating chapters are about a prolific and super creepy 19th-century serial killer. I advise against reading it just before falling asleep.

Hi Ellie,
That is awesome that you are pursuing a Criminal Justice degree, definitely a lot of different avenues you can go down with that. It is also really cool that you are Basque. My friends and I went to the Basque Festival in downtown Boise last fall, and there was a lot of delicious food! Always enjoy learning new cultures and tasting all of the food. Very cool that you a large animal vet too, I am sure you always have some satisfaction after helping animals stay healthy.

Hey, Ellie! I think it is awesome that you have a job that you love and plan to stick with it. I have only been to one rodeo, but it was a lot of fun! As far as horseback riding goes, one of my most painful childhood memories involved falling off of a galloping horse on my grandpa’s ranch down in Arizona. I’m sure you could teach me a thing or two!
Looking forward to a great semester!
